Mesquite Entertainment hosts Duck Derby fundraiser for Warrior Women of Mesquite NV

150 150 Warrior Women of Mesquite Nevada

BY TERRI FITZSIMMONS

Over 100 supporters flocked to the pool at the Casablanca Resort on Saturday, October 25th to participate in the first annual Duck Derby. All proceeds went to the Warrior Women of Mesquite Nevada, a local non-profit benefiting those with cancer and their families. Jami Taylor, employee and Community Engagement Manager of Mesquite Entertainment stated “Mesquite Entertainment was the driving force behind the event, and it couldn’t have been accomplished without the collaboration of all departments and CEO Justin Moore’s encouragement and care for the community.” Many of the supporters donning pink shirts were eager to participate in this worthwhile event which focused on benefiting the organization during breast cancer awareness month. Some of them were in varying stages of cancer, while others had members of their families suffering from it. All agreed that the Warrior Women Organization is an integral component of the healing process. The organization stresses that helping the families, along with the patients is crucial.

This lively event featured upbeat music from a live DJ, Brandon Royce from Vegas Born Entertainment, light snacks, remarks from Mesquite Mayor Jesse Whipple, and special appearances from the Mesquite Showgirls and the CasaBlanca’s mascot, Casanova the Parrot. The Warrior Women handed out necklaces, packets, and flags to all the supporters.

Many of the Warrior Women were busy selling ducks for the races. Nearly 600 were sold (along with the Warrior Women, Mesquite Entertainment’s gift shops and golf pro shops sold many ducks prior to the derby), making this event a big success.

Opening the program was Andy Falkof from Mesquite Entertainment, announcing their new brand and logo: Mesquite Entertainment Cares, which highlights their commitment to supporting the community. Dawn Pecoraro, president of Warrior Women, gave a short speech, discussing the origin of the Warrior Women and asking for ideas from the supporters to help promote the organization, which was founded by a passionate group of cancer survivors “who came together with a shared mission to support others battling cancer.”

The derby consisted of four heats with all the ducks floating in the pool, going over the waterfall and being propelled by lifeguards in the pool. The participants cheered their numbered ducks to the finish line. The final heat proved to be a lucrative one for the top winners: The first prize went to Kelly M. for $1000.00; In second place was Christie N. taking home $600, and Kirsten P. winning $400.00. Other prizes consisted of Catherine’s basket which was won by Linda B, and a bowling package given to Rex and Tammy B. Each of the 4 heat winners got a buffet for 2 at the Virgin River: Shanna M., Debbie P., Jr & Sabra B. and Brenda A.

The Duck Derby event is shining example of Mesquite Entertainment’s dedication to the community and the Warrior Women’s inspiring hope and awareness, as well as providing resources for all those affected by cancer.

A Pink Warrior’s Christmas

1024 1024 Warrior Women of Mesquite Nevada

We at Warrior Women of Mesquite Nevada consider Pink Christmas Nevada as our sister organization. They are a wonderful organization that helps the cancer community. We help each other out with events. Below is information on their organization:

My name is Kirsten Pearson, President and co-founder of Pink Christmas Nevada.
Inspired and blessed to see the generosity of our community firsthand upon my breast cancer diagnosis in 2016, there were no words to express my gratitude for the love, support, and generosity that I experienced during that time. In remission, I knew that I had found my purpose. I am not thankful for cancer… but I am grateful for what cancer has taught me. I will forever strive to pay it forward and give back more than I was given.
Cancer knows no boundaries. It knows no discernment of age. It does not care how unbelievably devastating the impact on a person or their family. The emotional toll is compounded by the financial toll after diagnosis. It also underestimates the power of the community surrounding this person. That is our power in this community. We can surround them with love and light, and give what we can to raise money for them. Even if it is just extra money to eat out, order pizza, go to the movies, and have some semblance of a “normal” life. That is what our organization is about.
Our first Pink Christmas Nevada event had a successful start in Mesquite in 2020. Every year we continue to grow. We are honored and humbled that our beneficiaries have been vulnerable enough to include us in their journey. You have a special opportunity to be included as part of their journey – in more ways than one.
Pink Christmas Nevada is hosting our 6th annual A Pink Warriors Christmas and 4th Pink Golf Classic.
Saturday, November 22nd A Pink Warrior’s Christmas will be held at Falcon Ridge Golf Course and Scotty’s Bar and Grill.
8:30 am – Golf shot-gun start
10 am – 2 pm – Family Fun
2 pm – 3 pm – Raffles
5:30 pm – 9ish – Dinner and Live Entertainment
Every dollar goes to the beneficiaries. Pink Christmas Nevada wholly relies on charitable donations to continue supporting and providing for our beneficiaries. How do you support members of our community who are facing the loss of the life they once knew?
  1. Consider a raffle donation to the November event with raffle items or baskets.
  2. Consider a charitable gift.
  3. Donate your sponsorship of the facility or event food.
  4. Golf event Hole sponsorships
  5. Attend our events to support our important work during the Christmas season.
100% of monetary donations, are deeply appreciated, and go to our beneficiaries that are from Mesquite or surrounding communities.
These community events remind us that the true meaning of Christmas is always more than presents under a tree.
Feel free to call 702-279-2530 with any questions about the event or to make a donation.
Thank you for your continuous support!
Sincerely,
Kirsten Pearson, President
